The Iowa Cubs released their 2014 schedule on Monday. 2014 promises to be an exciting season for Iowa with Chicago Cubs top prospect Javier Baez slated to be Opening Day shortstop and a host of other prospects likely to see time in Des Moines.
The home schedule begins with a four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds on April 3. Iowa is home for games on Memorial Day and Labor Day.
2014 begins a new alignment of teams in the Pacific Coast League. Iowa is a member of the PCL American Northern division. The Omaha Storm Chasers will remain in the division with Iowa. Joining Iowa and Omaha will be the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Oklahoma City Redhawks. The Memphis Redbirds and Nashville Sounds will now be playing in the American Southern division. The realignment was necessitated by the Tucson franchise moving to El Paso.
The home portion of the schedule is broken down into six, eight-game homestands and six, four-game homestands, wrapping the regular season with a home series against new division rival Oklahoma City over Labor Day weekend.
The schedule also includes a day/night double-header against Oklahoma City on Saturday, July 12 and a double-header against Memphis on Sunday, July 27.
Fans of day baseball should be happy about the schedule as it boasts 12 games that will be played during the week, all beginning at Noon.
