Iowa Cubs postponed and other team notes

Tuesday night’s game between the Iowa Cubs and Memphis Redbirds was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, May 30. Both games will be seven-inning contests.

TRANSACTIONS: On Monday, the Chicago Cubs activated Justin Ruggiano from the disabled list. Ruggiano played in six games with Iowa, batting .143 (3-for-21). In a corresponding move, Ryan Kalish was optioned to Iowa. Kalish hit .242 (22-for-91) with 4 RBI in 39 games with Chicago.

On Tuesday, the Cubs recalled Blake Parker from Iowa. Parker takes the roster spot of Wesley Wright who was placed on paternity leave. Parker has been outstanding with Iowa. Parker has appeared in 12 games and has eight saves with a sparkling 0.77 ERA. Parker appeared in 49 games for the Cubs in 2013 and compiled a 1-2 record with one save and a 2.72 ERA in 46.1 innings.

Also on Tuesday, Josh Vitters was placed on the disabled list with a broken toe on his left foot.

NOTES: On Monday, Javier Baez was named the Pacific Coast League’s Player of the Week. Baez is in the midst of an 11 game hitting streak. Baez has seen his batting average climb from .142 up to .225 during the streak. Baez joins pitchers Chris Rusin, Tsuyoshi Wada, and Kyle Hendricks as being honored with an award by the league this season as the three all have been named PCL Pitcher of the Week.
