Returning for their second year with the Crush are Dennis Lynch and Ken Johnson. Bruce Charlet is also returning for what will be his third year.
Gerry Woolman also rejoins the coaching staff after taking a couple years off to pursue other endeavors. His past experience includes being on the Crush’s coaching staff in 2011 and having coaching assignments with the Des Moines Blaze. He is currently coaching with Lincoln High School’s freshman squad and a graduate student at Grand View University.
One of several new faces to the staff this year is head coach Dedric Ward. Ward has a lifetime of experience playing and coaching. He played football in high school in Cedar Rapids; then played at the University of Northern Iowa until 1997, when he was drafted by the New York Jets. He went on to play for several teams, including the Super Bowl XXXVIII Champion New England Patriots, before retiring with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004. Since then his coaching experience has been at both the NFL and collegiate levels.
Another new coach bringing vast experience is Preston Ward, who has over 15 years of experience that includes a wide range of age levels, from elementary to high school. He is currently on the coaching staff for the Woodward Academy Knights.
New coach Ron Crowdis has a coaching background similar to Preston’s and he was on the staff for the now defunct Women’s Football Alliance teams, the Iowa Thunder and the Iowa Explosion.
Other new coaches are Michael Young and Jason Johns. Young was part of the coaching staff for the Explosion and Johns has several years of experience playing on a semi-pro team in New York.
