Iowa Boys' Basketball post-season begins (Photos)

Iowa High School Boys' Basketball started off district play tonight in Class 2A and 1A. The Radio Iowa final top ten teams in both classes have the night off or a bye, but they will be taking on the winners of tonight's games on Thursday.

Area Davenport Class 2A schools that played tonight included Camanche, Louisa-Muscatine, and Durant-Bennett. Camanche (9-13) could not overcome Bellevue (8-14), losing by the score of 42-65. Bellevue will take on Northeast, Goose Lake (16-6) for the district semi-final round. In the same District 9 bracket, Durant-Bennett (7-15) lost to Tipton (2-20), 45-48, even though Durant-Bennett beat Tipton twice during the regular season. Tipton will face North Cedar (18-3) on Thursday. Louisa-Muscatine (7-15) also ended their season tonight with a loss to West Liberty (11-11), 47-58. West Liberty will go on to face Wilton (16-5) for Thursday night's matchup.

In Class 1A, two more schools within the 45 mile range of downtown Davenport include Calamus-Wheatland (10-12) and Prince of Peace Prep of Clinton (4-18). They took on each other in the first round of District 6 at Calamus-Wheatland with Calamus-Wheatland winning 63-48. Calamus-Wheatland will take on Preston (18-3) at Preston on Thursday.

Of the fore-mentioned teams, North Cedar is the only one that holds a spot on the Radio Iowa rankings. After winning the conference outright with a win over West Branch last week, #7 Knights now prepare to begin their post-season run with a start against Tipton. They have taken care of the Tigers twice this year, 70-53 and 67-51, but anything can happen on any given night. Go Knights!
