The Central Iowa Concert Calendar for Sunday, August 24 is topped by The Iowa Blues Challenge Finals (Solo/Duo Division). The competition will be held at Zimm's Food & Spirits (3124 Ingersoll Avenue) in Des Moines at 6 p.m. Finalists Rob Lumbard, The Zach & Mike Show, the Quay Thomas Duo, and Charlie Hayes & "Detroit" Larry Davison will compete for a $250 cash prize, 8 hours recording time, paid appearances at the 2015 Winter Blues Fest and the 2015 Bottom's Up Blues Bash, and entry into and travel expenses for the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Admission will be $6 for a member of any Iowa-based Blues Society and $8 for the general public. This will be a 21-and-older event.

The Final Mix Show Band will perform at the Live at the Creek summer concert series on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The performance will take place at the amphitheater at the Jordan Creek Town Center, and it is free and open to all ages. Final Mix's roots can be traced back to the C.C. Ryders in Seattle in the late Eighties and early Nineties. Members of that band would move on to form Final Mix and eventually settle in Des Moines. The band, featuring Iowa Blues Hall of Famer Del "Saxman" Jones, performs R&B, jazz fusion, blues, hip hop, and rock and roll spanning the past five decades, as well as original material.

The Vape House, LLC will hold a charity event to raise money and awareness for the battle against lung cancer at Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event, dubbed Not Just Rap, will feature a number of local hip hop performers, as well as a raffle for over $1000 worth of prizes. Chino G, Scoobee Oh Boy, Swag, BMG, SHMG, Pipeman Shawty, KRz BBy, and New Money will all take the stage, and there will be a surprise special guest performing, as well. Yung Drank from Iowa World Radio will kick off the show and serve as the host for the evening. Admission for the all ages event will be $5, and that will include a free raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets will be $1 apiece. (Note: Even though the event is open to all ages, you must be 18 or older to enter the raffle.)
