Iowa Basketball: Morgan Johnson named Academic All-District

Iowa senior center Morgan Johnson will be done playing basketball competitively when the season ends in March.

Not because she is not good enough to move on but because Johnson has bigger and perhaps better plans for herself post-basketball. She is currently trying to be a medical student and majors in human physiology.

The two-time Academic All-Big Ten member recently showed she is serious about her studies when she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.

There are 50 players on the District 6 team and Johnson will now appear on the Academic All-American ballot for consideration later this year.

Johnson is on the Dean’s List and has been named to the Presidential Committee on Athletes three times.

On the court, Johnson leads the Hawkeyes at 15 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. She has reached double figures 17 times and has recorded six double-doubles. She is Iowa’s all-time leading blocker at 267 and is seven in rebounds with 752. The senior also is 12th in career scoring at 1,427 points.

Iowa takes on Minnesota tonight in Minneapolis, Minn. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
