Iowa Basketball: Jaime Printy named Big Ten Player of the Week

Iowa senior Jaime Printy was impressive last week for the Hawkeye women’s basketball team. And for her strong performance, she was named Big Ten Conference Women’s Player of the Week on Tuesday.

The Marion, Iowa, native averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and made 54 percent of her shots from the floor. She connected on 41 percent from 3 and made 14-of-15 free throws.

It was the sixth Big Ten honor for Printy and the second Big Ten Player of the Week honor in her career. She also became the sixth Hawkeye to score at least 1,700 points during her 14-point, five-rebound effort against No. 23 on Sunday.

Printy was outstanding against Wisconsin as well, beginning the week with a 29-point performance in the come-from-behind victory.

With her team down by one with 5:25 to play, Printy scored 14 straight points, including her own 12-0 run, and put the Hawkeyes up by 10 with 1:32 to play. She was 3-for-3 from long range, 10-of-11 from the foul line and also finished with eight rebounds, four assists and one turnover in 35 minutes.

The two wins for Iowa puts the Hawkeyes into the national rankings for the first time since 2011. Iowa is now 24th in the Associated Press Poll and 25th in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. The Hawkeyes spent 13 weeks in the poll during the 2010-11 season and were ranked as high as No. 13.

Iowa is ranked in the USA Today Sports Coaches’ poll for the first time since Jan. 31, 2011.

The Hawkeyes (16-5, 5-2) return to the court Thursday when they head east for a battle with rival Illinois (11-8, 4-3) at Assembly Hall in Champaign, Illinois.
