Roy Devyn Marble is the first Iowa men’s basketball player to earn Big Ten Conference Player of the Week honors since 2012, and it comes on the heels of a big week for the 14th ranked Hawkeyes.

Marble, a senior, averaged 18.5 points and shot 60 percent from the floor in two victories over Northwestern and No. 3 Ohio State.

The Southfield, Mich., native netted a game-high 22 points Sunday in an 84-74 win over the third-ranked Buckeyes and helped the Hawkeyes knock off their first top-five team since 1991.

Iowa joins only North Carolina as the only teams in the country with a road win against an Associated Press top-three team this season. It also was only the third time in the last four seasons that Ohio State has allowed more than 80 points in a game.

He also had 15 points, six assists, four steals and no turnovers in a 93-67 win over Northwestern in Iowa City on Jan. 9.

Marble, who currently ranks second in Big Ten scoring at 20 points per game and third in steals at 2.5 per contest, also was tabbed Big Ten Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com.

It is the first time an Iowa Hawkeye men’s hoops player has been named Big Ten Player of the Week since Matt Gatens was honored back on Feb. 27 of 2012.

Iowa (14-3) has started the Big Ten season 3-1 for the first time since 2005-06, which also was the last time the Hawkeyes advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Hawkeyes will not play again until Sunday when they host rival Minnesota in Carver-Hawkeye Arena at noon.
