The University of Iowa men’s basketball team will open conference play on the road, play rival Wisconsin twice in the span of 11 days and will have four home weekends as the Big Ten Conference announced its conference schedules Thursday.

The Hawkeyes will open the Big Ten slate at Ohio State, playing their first league opener on the road for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Iowa also opened up in Columbus, Ohio, that season.

The Buckeyes are one of five schools the Hawkeyes will face twice in 2014-15. The other four are Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin and Iowa faces the Badgers, a Final Four team a year ago, twice in the span of 11 days.

The Hawkeyes also will host Illinois, Michigan State and Big Ten newcomers Rutgers and Maryland at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, while traveling to Indiana, Michigan, Penn State and Purdue in single matchups.

Iowa will get a good look at some of the best teams in the league right off the bat as the first six opponents in Big Ten play all advanced to postseason play last year and five were part of the NCAA Tournament. Included in that stretch are a home and home with Ohio State, road games against Minnesota and Wisconsin and home dates with Nebraska and Michigan State.

Iowa will play its final conference game of the season at home for the fifth straight season and the two conference “byes” are on the weekend of Jan. 3-4 and midweek on Jan. 27-28. The Hawkeyes also will only play on Wednesday once during the Big Ten season.

The rest of Iowa’s schedule next season also includes non-conference neutral site games against Texas and either California or Syracuse in the 2K Classic on Nov. 20-21 and Northern Iowa at Wells Fargo Arena as part of the Big Four Classic on Dec. 20.

The Hawkeyes also will host instate rival Iowa State at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Dec. 12 and travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the Tar Heels as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 3.

The regular season opener is Friday, Nov. 14, against an opponent to be named later in a 2K regional round contest. The Hawkeyes play a second 2K Classic regional game three days later.

Game times and television information for each game will be announced at a later date.
