Due to what is expected to be around a foot of snowfall, the Iowa-Nebraska men’s basketball game scheduled to be played Thursday in Lincoln, Neb., has been postponed to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The University of Iowa and the University of Nebraska, in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference, made the announced Tuesday afternoon.
The game will take place at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The move was prompted by the winter storm expected to hit the upper Midwest on Wednesday and Thursday and was announced in advance for the safety of student-athletes, fans and game-day personnel.
Saturday’s date was available for both teams, as Thursday’s scheduled matchup was the only game of the week for both Iowa and Nebraska.
Fans who had purchased tickets for Thursday’s game can still use those tickets to get into the doors on Saturday. In addition, tickets still remain for Saturday’s rescheduled game with prices at $10 and $15.
The new day has thrown a wrench in the television plans for coverage of the game. It was originally supposed to be aired by ESPN2 but that may no longer be the case. Television changes – if there are any – will be announced as soon as possible. It also is possible that the game will not be seen on TV.
The last time an Iowa men’s basketball game was postponed due to weather took place during the 2006-07 season. Iowa was scheduled to play Northwestern in Iowa City on Feb. 14, 2007, but that game was delayed one day and played as part of a women’s and men’s doubleheader in Carver-Hawkeye Arena the following night. Iowa won that game, 66-58.
