Iowa Basketball: Despite losing streak, Hawks land two verbal commitments

Despite having to deal with a recent losing streak, fans of the Iowa men’s basketball program had something to smile about last weekend when a pair of recruits gave their verbal commitments to the Hawkeye hoops program.

Junior college point guard Trey Dickerson visited the Iowa campus last weekend and sat in on the Hawkeyes’ game with Illinois on Saturday night. And despite the loss at the buzzer, Dickerson gave his pledge shortly after the defeat to the Iowa coaching staff.

Sunday, the Hawkeyes got an early jump on the 2015 recruiting class when Chicago, Ill., native Brandon Hutton said yes to the program.

Dickerson is ranked as the top point guard in the junior college ranks and the 10th best player overall. The 6-foot guard from Williston State also fielded offers from Arkansas, Nebraska, Washington, Washington State, UAB, Boise State and Western Kentucky.

Hutton chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Wisconsin, Loyola and Illinois State and also field some interest from West Virginia.

The Badgers were Hutton’s first major Division I offer but the Hawkeyes wound up winning the services of the 6-foot-6 small forward, who hails from Chicago, Illinois, and attended De La Salle Institute.

Dickerson committed to Iowa via his Twitter account late Saturday. Dutton’s, a three-star small forward, verbal pledge was reported by HawkeyeInsider’s Robe Howe.
