The long-awaited untethered iOS 7 jailbreak from the evaders jailbreak development team was finally released Sunday (Dec.22). Announced just in time for the holidays, the “evasiOn7 iOS 7.x” software sparked concern among the jailbreak community.
The infamous iOS hacker team took to Twitter to inform idevice owners about the release status of the iOS 7 jailbreak. “Merry Christmas! The iOS 7 jailbreak has been released at http://t.co/wblOSKyLah! All donations will go to @publicknowledge, @eff and @ffii,” @evad3rs said in a Twitter post Sunday.
According to Lifehacker, the new iOS 7 jailbreak from faced scrutiny as the software was found to be unstable and was possibly forwarding private user data to another site. It was suggested that Apple device owners should wait before proceeding with the evasiOn7 jailbreak. The rumors may have come about as a result of a third-party app install embedded into the software installation.
The evaders development team posted a blog response to the jailbreak community Sunday to address the speculation surrounding evasion7, particularly the included third-party app. “Most of the concern surrounds the inclusion of the Chinese App Store Taig. In the course of developing the iOS 7 jailbreak, we were approached by the company with an offer of partnership in offering Taig bundled with the jailbreak in China,” the post said Sunday.
In response to accusations of Taig containing cracked apps, the developers expressed their stance on piracy. "In our agreement with Taig, we contractually bind them to not have piracy in their store. This was an extremely important precondition of working with them," the post said.
As ZDNet reports, the jailbreak development team ultimately decided to disable Taig as a result of the pirated apps. Apple owners can also uninstall the app if they desire to do so, which is one of the perks of jailbreaking devices.
The evasion7 untethered iOS 7 jailbreak is available for download at the evasion team’s website and is compatible with all Apple device’s running up to iOS 7.0.4 software. This includes iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad mini and iPod Touch.
Should you decide to jailbreak your iOS 7 device right away, it’s a good idea to perform a backup on your device using either iCloud or iTunes. In the event that something goes wrong, you will be able to easily restore your precious data.
The evasion team warns that there is a known issue that OTA updates of iOS 7 can result in an unsuccessful jailbreak or cause devices to become stuck on the boot screen. “Until we fix that, please restore your device to 7.0.4. with iTunes first”, the team posted on the website.
“Many Cydia tweaks are not yet compatible with iOS 7. Please always backup your phone before installing new tweaks from Cydia as your iPhone could be stuck in the boot process,” the team said.
