Current Apple iPhone 5 device owners can rejoice knowing that the official iOS7 firmware update is almost here. This time around, Apple took a different approach to enhancing the overall user experience with the new iOS 7.
Apple hosted a media event Tuesday (Sep.10) to show off the next two iPhone 5 models with a joint release date of Sep. 20, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. Apple also announced its complete overhaul of the iOS operating system. The new iOS 7 has an entire new look and feel along with convenient new features.
With a release date set for Sep. 18, iOS 7 will be the stock operating system for the upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The new iOS 7 boasts some of the most significant changes to the user interface since the birth of Apple’s iOS. Here are some the changes found in the new iOS 7 update:
Control Center: Apple users can now access their device’s controls with a simple swipe gesture across the screen. The control center panel contains icons to manage functions such as airplane mode, WiFi, Bluetooth and brightness. It even includes useful tools such as the flashlight, calculator and camera. The control panel can be accessed from any screen and is similar to the power control pull down menu found on Android devices.
Notification Center: Users can now access the Notification Center directly from the lock screen and view the day’s date, weather and schedule with a new at a glance feature.
Multitasking: iOS 7 has a new multitasking feature that lets users easily scroll their device to jump from app to app. The system learns what apps users frequently use and keeps the apps current through automatic, silent updates.
Camera App: The new camera app update lets users swipe through photo, square, panoramic and video modes and includes a power filter. Photos can now be organized in the order that they were taken with the updated timestamp and location feature.
Siri: Apple’s virtual assistant Siri has also undergone some changes with the new iOS 7 update. Siri is now integrated with Twitter and Wikipedia to provide more information. Users can also enjoy Siri sound enhancements with the addition of new male and female voices.
Existing Apple device owners will be able to update to the new iOS 7 as long as their iPhone, iPad or iPod is compatible. All other iPhone, iPad, iPod devices are non-compatible and will remain at iOS 6.
