On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the brand new Apple iOS 7 download was officially released about mid-day for owners of newer models of the iPhone, such as iPhone 5, and newer iPad's including the iPad Mini. While the iOS 7 software was intended to bring some visual improvements and some extra new features with it, users quickly found there were "software updated failed" and other error messages arriving with it.
A Sept. 17 report via TechCrunch, gives details on how the new operating system will look for various Apple mobile devices including the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C and newer iPads. Among the big changes are of course a much more fluid visual interface and display, as well as a brand new "Control Center." The new panel will give device users quicker access to important settings including airplane mode, wifi, bluetooth, do not disturb, security, brightness and music/volume controls.
Another new feature which comes with the upgrade is AirDrop which now brings the ability for owners of various Apple devices to transmit photos and some other file types between devices. Multitasking has been made easier as well, as users can easily flip between their currently-open apps, or shut them down one-by-one from one screen. Don't forget about Siri, which also has received a slight upgrade in the form of "more pleasing voices."
The new iOS 7 was unveiled months ago, but was finally scheduled for release earlier this month during an Apple press event. During that event, the new iPhone 5S and 5C models were also unveiled. They noted the release dates of Sept. 18 for the new iOS upgrade, and the new iPhone models on Sept. 20. Of course, getting your hands on the new software upgrades on day one might come with a few hiccups and complications.
This writer discovered the "Software Updated Failed" message which said "An error occurred downloading iOS 7.0" on the iPhone 5. Additionally, attempting to install the new update on an iPad Mini yielded a download time of an hour at first, then lingered on and on and eventually read 6 hours. The MacRumors forums produced similar complaints and issues from others trying to download the new iOS 7 update, indicating that there might be a few too many people trying to get the new upgrade at once, causing Apple server issues.
Other forum comments have indicated there are messages asking that the device be plugged in while the update downloads, and others still have said they have run into error messages saying they don't have enough space available. Basically, with most new updates or "patch" downloads on a large scale level, whether it be for "Diablo" on a PC, or for the iPhone, are going to have just a slight bit of traffic and errors in the early stages, so those trying to get the new updates definitely will need some patience.
Apple iPhone and iPad owners, have you been able to successfully install the newest iOS 7 upgrade on your device? If so, what is your favorite feature or change?
