According to a report on ProMMAInsider.com Monday, heavyweight fighter Walt Harris has found a new management team. "The Big Ticket" signed with the start up Ion Sports Management in an effort to get his career headed in the right direction. The organization is headed by former UFC fighter Charles McCarthy, who has been heavily involved in the management aspect of the business since retiring from fighting a few years ago.
In Walt Harris, Ion Sports Management has landed a great prospect. At 5-1 so far in his career, the heavyweight has finished all five of the fights he has won within the first two minutes of the first round. His most notable victory was over Greg Jackson fighter Anthony Hamilton, who was undefeated at 8-0 at the time of their fight. Harris got the impressive TKO at just 1:15 of the first round. His lone loss was to another prospect, Chris Barnett, who came into the fight 30 lbs. over the allotted weight limit.
The past year has been slow for Walt Harris who has had difficulty getting fights. His lone appearance in the past year saw him win in his native Alabama in just one minute. Management difficulties have led to his absence, which is hopefully something Ion Sports Management can fix.
In a statement released on his Facebook page, Charles McCarthy let the MMA community know about their newest acquisition.
"Ion Sports Management is proud to announce the signing of superstar heavyweight Walt BigTicket Harris! We are excited to join this American Top Team standout as he rips through the worlds best heavyweights!"
Charles McCarthy has most recently been involved with Alchemist Management, which has fighters such as Rory MacDonald, Liz Carmouche, Nate Marquardt and Stefan Struve under their banner. Another partner in that organization is MC Hammer. Additionally, he is a trainer at a branch of American Top Team in Boynton Beach, Fla.
