Dennis Lyxzén has toured America a few times before, but this is was his first time in the States with his latest project INVSN, as he explained to the Chicago crowd last Thursday night. As the band were setting up on stage, the audience looked at them wondering what they were about. They shortly got their answer when they launched into “The Promise,” “Down in the Shadows,” and “God's Left Us Stranded.” If there's anything to be learned from the show it's that Dennis is an excellent front man. From start to finish he danced, pop locked, attempted splits, kicks, did fancy throws with the microphone, and pumped his fist in the air no matter what song was playing. He moved around the stage so fast and so often it was hard to keep up with him. From the looks of the reaction of the crowd, no one was expecting that.
Not only were INVSN entertaining, they sounded great too. As the night went on people slowly started to join Dennis by dancing to the music, which is exactly what he wanted to see. Before songs like “Inheritance” and “Hate,” Dennis spoke to the crowd about the band and their message of not letting society dictate who you are. His words were inspiring and got the audience pumped up for more. The most memorable performance of the night came during “Our Blood.” During the musical bridge, Dennis wiggled, shook, thrusted, and hopped to the music before finishing the the track with a shattering howl that found the microphone in his mouth. INVSN's set was so good, many wandered over to the store to get a copy of their album. Though the audience were a little unsure of the band when the night started, by the end of their set everyone cheered and clapped as loud as they could, proving that INVSN had successfully won Chicago over.
INVSN's self titled debut is out now. The band is also currently on tour with Minus the Bear. To get your copy of the album and to listen to their first single “Down in the Shadows,” visit their website. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
