The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Film Program will hold a Spring 2012 Cru Film Project Kick-Off Event in Brindley Auditorium, York Science Hall on Monday, January 30, 5-6 p.m., in Belton, Texas.
Anyone who is interested in being involved in the film as either cast or crew is welcome but expected to attend the Kick- Off event, January 30. Auditions that are open to students and the public will be held Monday, Feb. 6, starting at 4 p.m. in Brindley Auditorium, York Science Hall on campus.
The basic purpose of UMHB student film productions is to provide students and associates hands-on experiences in the process of producing films from script to screen. UMHB film students are involved in every stage of the process. The UMHB film program involves student participation in authentic film production processes so that they are prepared to work on film sets and on film productions in real-world work.
This script-to-screen process begins in the UMHB screenwriting course in which each student produces a short screenplay. UMHB film faculty members then select screenplays for production. They have selected the short screenplay, The Walk (working title) written by Kelsey Broussard to produce this spring semester. Senior Film student, Chris Collins, has been named the Student Director. Elizabeth Hauser, senior CGD/Film student, has been selected as Editor. At the Kick-Off event, January 30, the film production process will be outlined, expectations explained, and the following materials will be distributed: calendars, job descriptions, crew applications, sample resumes for auditions and applications, and sign-up for audition slots.
"The Walk" is about a young woman, Kenzie, who has been greatly affected by the absence of her father due to divorce when she was six years old. Kenzie is approaching her marriage to Mark. As the days near the wedding, her dreams of her father's heartbreaking absences during her childhood haunt her and fear that Mark will end up like her father permeates through her entire body. The day of the wedding Kenzie's father calls to inform her that he will not be able to walk her down the aisle. But this is also the day that she realizes that her father's absence can be filled by God and His spirit through her friends, her mother, and her future husband.
Kenzie is female in her 20's. She is slender and of average height with long hair. She is conflicted about marrying her fiancé because she is afraid that he will leave her brokenhearted like her father.
Mark is a male in his 20's and is 5'11. He has dark hair and tan skin. His built suggests strength, but his face portrays a kind of softness that suggests a gentle spirit. He is Kenzie's fiancé and a God-fearing man who has the ability to warm a room with merely his presence.
Sadie is a woman in her 40's. She is young for a mother, and broken, yet strong. She was forced to be the sole provider for her family when she divorced her husband (Kenzie's father). She is a hard woman who shows just the right amount of compassion when necessary. Under her hardness is a tender love for her daughter Kenzie.
Hannah is Kenzie's best friend and maid-of-honor. She is around the same age as Kenzie and very jovial, positive, and innately pure. She has blonde hair that she loves to wear in tendrils. She is slightly plump because of an addiction to chocolate. She fully supports Kenzie's marriage and is a perceptive and intuitive friend. She loves helping people and is always the first to relieve tension in any circumstance.
Extras of all ages for the wedding scene are needed.
Paid professional film mentors have been selected. However, for all involved there are valuable possible and potential benefits to participation in this film shoot: excellent free training on all aspects of filmmaking and film acting, IMDb credit, resume-building, valuable networking, reasonable headshots...
