According to an Apr. 7 report from Wombat Sports, Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp made some eye-popping comments at the Invicta FC 5 post-fight presser, many of which surrounded around what be may next for Aussie MMA star Bec Hyatt.
Knapp explained that she's already thinking about Hyatt's future, and a matchup that intrigues her is one that was originally supposed to take place at Invicta FC 4.
"Oh I got some good competition for Bec Hyatt," Knapp said at the Invicta FC 5 post-fight presser. "There's a lot of girls coming up through the ranks -- Joanne Calderwood is out there. That's definitely a matchup we all want to see eventually. You know, we'll see."
Calderwood and Hyatt were originally slated to fight at Invicta FC 4 in January, but the bout was scrapped when Claudia Gadelha pulled out of the main event strawweight title fight due to an injury.
Calderwood's team turned down the offer to fight Carla Esparza, and Bec Hyatt stepped up in Gadelha's place.
Calderwood would go on to face Livia Von Plettenberg, and win in decisive fashion. As for Hyatt, she wasn't expected to survive the first round with Esparza, but she turned in a gritty effort in a 25-minute war that earned praise from fight fans across the glove.
Calderwood is now slated to fight Sally Krumdiack at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 53 on Apr. 13, so she should be ready to go for the Invicta FC 6 card in July.
Hyatt didn't suffer much damage during her Invicta FC 5 fight against Jasminka Cive, so she technically should also be good to go for Invicta FC 6 if the promotion decides to put her on the card.
Calderwood vs Hyatt could also be a nice addition to the Invicta FC 7 card that will likely happen in October. No official word yet from Invicta FC officials on the possibility of Calderwood vs Hyatt for either of the promotion's upcoming cards.
