Invicta FC to refund customers for Ustream pay-per-view mishap

Invicta Fighting Championships announced on Jan. 7 from its official Facebook page that all customers who purchased Invicta FC 4 will receive a full refund.

"Ustream will be making refunds to everyone who purchased a PPV ticket for Invicta FC," the promotion posted. "We appreciate the support and willingness by many to forgo the refund, but we feel that a full refund for everyone is the fair thing to do in this case. The event was a success in so many ways our fighters gave great athletic performances and our fans were watching and cheering them on! We want to show that our athletes and fans are number one priority, the refunds should post your credit card accounts within 48-72 hours. We look forward to hosting another great event Invicta FC 5 coming up in April, we hope to earn your continued support."

Ustream officials were apologetic about problems with the Invicta FC 4 stream.

"First off, let me just say how apologetic and sorry we are for what happened for the fans," Ustream CEO Brian Hunstable told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "I'm a big MMA fan. I've been in the community for years, and I don't like it when any of our broadcasters have issues, let alone a sport that I love and am passionate about. I take it especially serious, especially in this case."

Hunstable explained that the Ustream system was overloaded due to too many tickets being sold at one time.

"Unfortunately what happened was – and the issue was on Ustream's end, it was not on Invicta's end – was that believe it or not, our payment system, which is in sort of a beta program at the moment, got overloaded," Hunstable explained. "There were too many tickets being sold. We've done lots of pay-per-views over the last year, from the UFC to the Rugby World Cup to working with World Cup-qualifying soccer matches. The load of tickets being sold, we just hadn't seen a level of that to date, and that's ultimately what happened."

Invicta returns with another event slated for the end of April, but no word yet on whether they plan to make another attempt at pay-per-view.

Invicta FC 5 is set to feature a title fight between Vanessa Porto and Barb Honchak, plus the promotion's debut of Sarah Kaufman.
