Invicta FC replenishes roster with talent from across the globe

According to a Feb. 12 report from Wombat Sports, Invicta FC has replenished its strawweight roster with talented women from across the globe.

The promotion, which is expected to hold its first event since the historic TUF 20 announcement in late-March or early-April, has signed five 115-pounders to fill the void left by the 11 ladies who were scooped up by the UFC for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Brazilian striker Herica Tiburcio (7-2) was announced as the newest Invicta FC strawweight signee, following a week of announcements regarding the promotion's next wave of talent.

Tiburcio, 22, already holds wins over Kinberly Tanaka Novaes and Chayen Aline Gaspar. Besides defeating some of the top contenders in Brazil, Tiburcio also turned in a gritty performance against No. 3-ranked Claudia Gadelha.

Tiburcio lost a unanimous decision against Gadelha, but she stretched the Brazilian standout to the limits and lasted all three rounds.

Standing just 4'11, Tiburcio will be the shortest fighter to ever compete on the Invicta FC roster. However, she makes up for her height disadvantage with a ton of heart.

Invicta FC officials also looked to the Brazilian market to secure the services of Livia Renata Souza, an undefeated 115-pound submission ace.

Souza, a black belt in judo, has four first-round submission finishes.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that Invicta FC had signed fast-rising North Carolina striker Ashley "Doll Face" Greenway, an exciting fighter who went 5-1 in the amateur ranks.

Greenway, who stands 5'4, boasts victories over Andy Nguyen, Melissa Timmers and others. Her only loss came at the hands of Invicta FC vet Tecia Torres.

Additionally, Invicta FC has announced the signings of Irena Aldana and Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

The promotion also signed atomweight phenom Amber Brown, to deal with the departure of Jessica Penne.

The former Invicta FC champ (11-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) saw her Invicta FC contract expire following her recent victory over Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc, so she decided to tryout for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

“I think the timing’s pretty good,” she told MMAjunkie Radio. “My contract is up with Invicta, and this opportunity came up. It was really good timing, and I just want to explore it. I’ve fought at 115 (pounds) before.”

Here's a closer look at the women Invicta FC signed since the TUF 20 announcement:

  • Amber Brown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, 3-1 atomweight
  • Karolina Kowalkiewicz of Lodz, Poland, 4-0 strawweight
  • Faith Van Duin of New Zealand, 4-0 featherweight
  • Livia Renata Souza of Brazil, 5-0 strawweight
  • Ashley Greenway of Gastonia, North Carolina, 5-1 strawweight
  • Herica Tiburcio of Brazil, 7-2 strawweight
  • Irena Aldana of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, 3-1 bantamweight/strawweight
