Invicta FC MMA star Cassie "The Hulk" Robb said on Jan. 16 in an exclusive interview with Long Island MMA Examiner Eric Holden that female fighters should consider doubling up on bras and wearing compression shorts to avoid wardrobe malfunctions.
Robb, a 22-year-old atomweight, recalled a fight in Oct. 2012 where she suffered a wardrobe malfunction, and she took immediate steps to make sure it never happened again.
"I've had to wear two bras so the girl I was fighting wouldn't pull both down," Robb said. "She did in her first fight, so I took precaution. Despite my efforts, it still happened. She managed to show my goodies off to everyone in attendance and they had to pause the fight."
Now that women's MMA can be streamed online to a global audience, wardrobe malfunctions have become a real concern for female fighters.
It used to be not that big of a deal if a fighter suffered a nip slip in front of a regional crowd of just 200 people. But now that thousands of people are tuning in, Robb thinks it's important for female MMA stars to properly prepare in advance to avoid such displays.
Robb opted to not double up on her bras for her Invicta FC 4 fight against Laura Sanko, but she wore compression shorts under her regular ones.
"I didn't wear two bras last time, but I wear compression shorts under my regular ones," Robb said. "I'll probably double up on bras next time just in case. I just didn't really think about it last time."
Over 70,000 people tuned in for the Invicta FC 4 card on Jan. 5 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. Spectators were treated to solid displays of explosive female MMA action, but the event featured several wardrobe malfunctions.
Leslie Smith's top came up during the first round of her tilt against Raquel Pennington, and Alexis Davis' thong was on full display in the middle of her battle against Shayna Baszler.
