According to a Dec. 8 report from MMA Fighting, Team Cesar Gracie fighter Leslie "The Peacemaker" Smith fell short in her bid to attain the Invicta FC flyweight title, as she lost to Barb Honchak in the main event of Invicta FC 7.
"I knew Leslie was going to be tough, but she was tough," said Honchak (9-2), who won her eighth bout in a row.
The fight between Honchak and Smith was essentially a five-round slugfest, with the latter getting the best of the California native.
"It was a great fight," Honchak said of her first title defense. "I felt we had a great striking battle."
Nakamoto and Murphy went toe-to-toe for three rounds, before the latter went down with a knee injury that forced the fight to be stopped early in the fourth frame.
"If she wants a rematch I'll give it to her, I don't think anyone wanted to see it that way," said Murphy (8-0). "I'm going to go home the champion and work even harder. I saw her nose was bloody and I tasted it when it got in my mouth. Nothing gets me more excited for a fight than two people beating the s--- out of each other."
For fight fans who missed Invicta FC 7, Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp announced from her official Facebook page that the event will be posted on the promotion's website and also on YouTube for free streaming later this afternoon.
"Thank you to all of the amazing Invicta Fighting Championships athletes who always make me proud and to my staff that work hard for another amazing event," Knapp said. "The event will be available later today on the Invicta FC website and our youtube in it's entirety for the fans that missed fights and struggled with the online stream last night for free. We crashed the pay wall servers again!!! Frustrating! We will issue refunds to all requested refunds that purchased the online event. We will aggressively address this issue moving forward. Thank you all for the support and especially those that knew I would make this right and stood beside us. God bless!"
