Invicta FC officials confirmed on March 19 in an exclusive chat with Long Island MMA Examiner Eric Holden that Invicta FC 5 will be available as an online pay-per-view stream, reasonably priced at just $9.95.
While Invicta FC's official Facebook page caused some confusion on March 18 by stating that the price would be $7.95, Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp cleared up the miscommunication by posting via Facebook that the correct price is $9.95.
That's a great deal, considering Invicta FC 5 will feature over two dozen of the most talented female fighters in the world.
Invicta FC 5 will be streamed online in HD via satellite feed.
Invicta FC 4 was the promotion’s first foray into the realm of online pay-per-view selling, utilizing the popular live streaming platform Ustream. To say things didn’t go as planned would be an understatement.
Hundreds of users complained of being charged full price, only to never receive their log-in information, have other issues when trying to log-in, or receiving a poor quality stream when they were able to log-in.
Invicta FC quickly rectified the situation by taking down the pay wall, ditching the PPV charge and offering refunds.
Even after providing refunds, Invicta FC and Ustream officials were both apologetic for the confusion.
"We apologize to our fans and potential viewers. Please email vipsupport@ustream.com and cc info@invictafc.com We need to document all issues from unable to pay to the quality of the stream problems. We stand behind our word and will refund your PPV. Please email info@invictaf.com if you would like a refund," officials stated in an MMA Weekly report.
Due to the Invicta FC 4 mishap, it was unclear how the promotion would proceed for Invicta FC 5. Some MMA fans hoped the promotion would continue to offer free online streams until they landed a television deal, while others are happy to support women's MMA by paying to sit in front of their laptops on a Friday night.
On March 19, Invicta FC officials confirmed that Invicta FC 5 will in fact be an online pay-per-view, and not a free stream.
Invicta Fighting Championships has partnered with Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City to deliver the promotion’s first world championship doubleheader event in history on Apr. 5.
In the main event, reigning Invicta FC Atomweight (105 pounds) champ Jessica Penne (10-1) of Huntington Beach, Calif. will defend her crown against superstar Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson (10-3) of Albuquerque, N.M. and, in the co-main event and first-ever Invicta FC flyweight (125 pounds) title fight, submission ace Vanessa Porto (15-5) of Sao Paulo, Brazil will square off with red-hot star Barb Honchak (7-2) of Bettendorf, Iowa.
Additionally, flyweight superstar Zoila Frausto Gurgel (12-2) of Cincinnati, Ohio will make her Invicta FC debut against submission expert Jennifer Maia (6-2) of Curitiba, Parana Brazil.
