VanZant vs Torres
Round One: VanZant battles through some early adversity to press Torres up against the fence with 2:50 to go. Torres' strikes land crisp and clean, landing squarely on VanZant's face. It's all Torres in the opening frame, as she works leg kicks and elbows as part of her superb striking arsenal. Torres picking apart VanZant's striking game as the opening round winds down.
Round Two: Torres opens the frame with wild strikes, but VanZants battles back with a takedown. Torres takes her back with 3:56 remaining, working for a rear-naked choke. VanZant shows incredible submission defense by working through a tight rear-naked choke attempt with two minutes left in the frame.
Round Three: Torres likely up two rounds to zero on the judge's scorecards, so she comes out calm and relaxed in the third frame. VanZant has more urgency in the final frame, but Torres keeps landing strikes to the face. VanZant finds her best success by pressing Torres up against the cage. VanZant scores a takedown with three minutes left in the frame, but the ladies get back to their feet and it becomes a standup slugfest. Torres getting the best of the exchanges, but the third frame is closer than the first two. VanZant proving to be a very game opponent even though Torres proved she's the superior striker as this point in their careers.
The rest of the Invicta FC 4 card is still to come. In the main event and first-ever Invicta FC world strawweight (115 pounds) championship fight, Carla Esparza (8-2) of Redondo Beach, Calif. will face off with rising star “Rowdy” Bec Hyatt (4-1) of Brisbane, Australia.
In the bantamweight (135 pounds) co-main event, submission ace Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler (15-7) of Sioux Falls, S.D. will battle top-ranked striker Alexis Davis (12-5) of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.
Also on the main card, Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (4-2-1) squares off against Raquel “Rocky” Pennington (3-2-1) of Colorado Springs, Colo. in a bantamweight tilt, and Amanda Nunes takes on Sarah D'Alelio.
In other Invicta FC 4 main card action, Hiroko Yamanaka (12-2) fights the always entertaining Ediane Gomes (8-2) in a featherweight (145 pounds) contest, and the strawweights take center stage when Joanne Calderwood slugs it out with Livia Von Plettenberg.
