Invicta FC 4 results: Alexis Davis chokes out Shayna Baszler

According to a Jan. 5 report from MMA Mania, Shayna Baszler fought Alexis Davis on the Invicta FC 4 main card.

Davis won via rear-naked choke in the third round.

Round One: It's a feeling out process in the opening seconds, as Baszler tries to find her range with jabs and low kicks. Davis counters by switching levels with her body, preventing Baszler from getting too comfortable. Davis takes Baszler to the mat with three minutes to go in the frame, but the action slows to a halt with 2:50 to go. Davis keeps Baszler in a bearhug on the mat, and not much action unti the 1:30 mark. Baszler takes top position with 1:23 left, but Davis keeps a tight guard and works for an arm bar. Davis locks in a tight heel hook with ten seconds to go, and Baszler has a look of concern on her face. Davis runs out of time on securing the heel hook as the round ends.

Round Two: Back-and-forth striking exchange in the opening minute of the second frame, but Baszler gets the best of the exchange until both fighters fall to the mat with 3:50 to go. Baszler takes top position, but Davis keeps a tight guard and appears to work for a triangle choke with 3:15 left. It's a high-level MMA chess match as the round hits the midway mark, as both fighters work for submissions. Davis secures an armbar with 2:20 to go, and Baszler works hard to not allow the arm to be stretched.

Round Three: Baszler looks wobbly on her lead leg, perhaps from the heel hook she was caught in earlier in the fight. Davis likely up two rounds to zero, but she continues to push the pace with 3:30 to go. Davis poised to keep it standing, and she gets the better of the striking exchange in the waning minutes of the frame. Davis takes Baszler down and secures a rear-naked choke midway through the round.

The rest of the Invicta FC 4 card is still to come. In the main event and first-ever Invicta FC world strawweight (115 pounds) championship fight, Carla Esparza (8-2) of Redondo Beach, Calif. will face off with rising star “Rowdy” Bec Hyatt (4-1) of Brisbane, Australia.
