Marion County, West Virginia - On Tuesday, a tragic story of animal cruelty was shared on the Facebook wall for Pet Helper, Inc.
A mother dog, named "Momma Maddie" by those who tried to save her, was discovered over the side of a hill in Rachel.
Maddie was not alone - she had been abandoned there with her four puppies.
The individual who happened upon the victimized family witnessed a terrible scene - all of the animals had been shot in the head and left for dead.
Though the individual who discovered the family attempted to help, two of the puppies died before they could reach a veterinarian.
The injuries to the survivors were too grievous to overcome, even with veterinary care. The remaining three dogs were euthanized shortly after reaching the clinic.
Now an investigation is underway to find out who is responsible for this despicable act of cruelty.
Someone shot these dogs and dumped them - someone purposefully inflicted this pain upon this innocent family.
Law enforcement is actively working on this case. Anyone who recognizes the dogs or who has any information which may lead the authorities to the person(s) responsible is asked to call:
The prosecutor at 304.367.5380, or the Sheriff at 304.367.5300.
Rest in Peace to all who suffered and died.
