Georgia Invaders Head Coach Ron Hill will be coordinating the offense for the team competition as well as overseeing all offensive position drills and testing for the BSN Collegiate Showcase-a combine for Division II, Division III and NAIA players as well as FCS and FBS players that were not invited to the recent NFL combine.
Over 100 players (including 41 All-Americans) will take part in the three-day event that will be held on the University of Akron campus in Ohio beginning Friday March 8th. The combine is an opportunity for athletes from smaller schools to show their skills to scouts from the National Football League, Canadian Football League, Arena Football League, Professional Developmental Football League and other pro/semi-pro leagues.
The Invaders are preparing for their inaugural season as part of the Professional Developmental Football League and Coach Hill says he is looking forward to the opportunity to add talent to the Invaders still developing 44-man roster.
The team has held two combines and have a third set for Saturday March 16th to continue to build the team that will take the field for the first game in franchise history on Saturday May 4th. During an exclusive interview, Coach Hill discussed his offensive and defensive schemes as well as how the roster is shaping up.
Coach Hill plans to run a pro-style offense that will include the spread formation, 2-back set, and the Pro-I. He is looking for “big-play capability”, and is hoping to find additional playmakers at the combine this weekend. On defense Georgia will use the 3-3-5 scheme, and Hill hopes to bring a big body with the ability to plug the middle and stuff the run to camp.
Players that have already been signed include quarterback Nate Saunderes (Ft. Valley St.), running back Shamane Hyman (Collier University), wide receivers Chewy Spruill (PIFL Veteran), Chaz Dial and Juilius Gregory (Shaw University), offensive lineman Dustin Hannah (Stillman College and IAL Veteran), defensive back Antwain Spann (former NE Patriot) and linebacker Duke Adu-Jones (PIFL Veteran). Cole Kropacek from Chattahoochee Tech (and Kell HS) is set to handle the kicking duties.
An update on the coming combine will be published next week that will include final details.
The PDFL is 11 on 11 football that is played under combined NFL/PDFL rules. The league begins its fifth season of play in 2013. Georgia is a member of the NDC, along with the Palm Beach Crush, Miami Xtreme, Columbia Enforcers, and Carolina Knights, while the the ADC includes the Portland Boltz, Sea-Tac Cobras, Utah Argos, Boise Bandits, and New Mexico Outlawz.
