A stranger appeared at the front door of a Bryan County, OK home, occupied by 12-year-old girl who was alone. The man, who the child did not know, rang the doorbell. When there was no answer the man calmly walked to the back of the house. He then kicked-in the back door, to the horror of the girl, and entered the home.
The girl, whose name is not being released, quickly grabbed the family's loaded handgun and hid in a bathroom closet.
This is when, according to the local reporting kten.com, the intruder, who was later identified as Stacy Jones of Texarkana, TX, methodically made his way through the house. After searching for twenty minutes he had made his way to the bathroom where the armed pre-teen girl was desperately attempting to avoid a confrontation, but a peaceful resolution was not meant to be.
When Jones turned the doorknob the girl did not hesitate and opened fire through the door, striking Jones multiple times. With gun smoke in the air and the intruder on the ground, shot and bloody, the young girl ran out of the bathroom and called 911.
Bryan County Under Sheriff Ken Golden says the girl is a hero. He went on to say, "She was very brave, she stayed on the phone with the dispatcher the whole time, talked all the way through it, and was still on the phone with dispatch when we got into the house." He added, "She did everything she was supposed to do and as a last resort she did what she had to do to protect herself."
Stacy Jones was airlifted via helicopter to Plano, Texas.
