The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been totally re-envisioned and redesigned from the ground up for the 2015 model year. Mercedes expects big things from this small luxury sedan; so much that it has been modeled after its bigger most luxurious sibling.
The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s top selling vehicle series. Since the last time the C-Class was redesigned in 2007 it has sold over 2.4 million of them. Mercedes doesn’t plan on sit around on its previous success. For 2015 they have added an abundant amount of standard features, a host of technical innovations, and better fuel economy.
As far as performance and fuel economy Mercedes-Benz will be launching the C-Class in two different engine configurations for the US market. The C300 4MATIC will be propelled by a 235 hp 2.0 L turbocharged directed-injected I4. The C300 Turbo I4 will put out 273lb-ft of torque. The C400 4MATIC’s 329 hp will be coming from a 3.0L turbocharged direct-injected V6. The turbo V6 in the C400 will be good for 354 lb-ft of torque.
For 2015 the C-Class has grown in size to accommodate its occupants and their luggage. The wheelbase has grown by 3 inches and widened by 1.6 inches. As result the new C-Class is 3.7 inches longer overall to its predecessor. This makes for more space for the rear passengers and increases the truck volume to 17 cubic feet.
Whether you like your C-Class front-end to appear sporty or luxurious Mercedes has you covered with two separate appearances for the grille and hood. The sports treatment has the Mercedes star positioned within the grille; while the classic treatment has the Mercedes star adorned to the top of the hood. Out front there are three different choices of headlamps. The standard C-Class comes with standard H7 halogen headlamps. If you opt for upgraded headlamp there are LED variations to choose from. In the back, the C-Class comes with LED tail lamps in all models.
On the inside the C-Class receives warm and cold materials and a lot of technology. The interior benefits from a mixture of leather, wood, and different metals. At the center of the dashboard you’ll see the prominent free-standing diagonal media screen. The screen comes in two different sizes 7 inches or 8.4 inches when opted for the Multimedia Package. In front of the central armrest you will find a touchpad controller that can understand hand-written gestures. The gestures can be imputed in letters, numbers, and special characters drawn by the finger. It takes gesture commands several different languages. The touchpad uses heptic feedback in response to input from the operator.
Suspension on the C-Class has also been upgraded. The base model suspension has been configured to be sporty yet comfortable. If you would like an even sportier suspension setup there is an optional sport package that lowers the suspension by .6 inches. For the first time the C-Class can be had with the AIRMATIC full air suspension. The air suspension isn’t just the first in its model lineup but also the first car in category to be offered with it. Driving dynamics can also be altered in the C-Class with AGILITY SELECT configurations. The driver can select Comfort, ECO, Sport, Sport+, and Individual (customizable).
There are a lot more advances in the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class including the safety features that Mercedes is known for. The 2015 C-Class will be available in our shores in the 2014 calendar year.
