This month, the DC Publishing Industry Examiner debuts Writing While Blog, joining the pantheon of journalists who provide commentary to context. Writing While Blog’s tagline is “where one asks WTF is up with pop culture, writing, books, and the publishing industry.” Here’s the rationale behind the blog:
Why go there? Well, as the DC Publishing Industry Examiner, I must maintain some level of journalistic objectivity, as well as adhere to the tenets of my profession. Not so with Writing While Blog. Here, I’ll have the freedom to insert my sizable opinion into aspects of this industry that seriously beg the question – WTF?!
Additionally, where my Examiner.com column is not all about me, Writing While Blog most certainly will be.
Books and publishing remain the primary focus of Writing While Blog. However, in the vein of Patrice Evans' The Assimilated Negro and Christian Lander's Stuff White People Like, Writing While Blog zooms out, with tongue firmly in cheek, to other aspects of American culture at large, aiming, more often than not, at those who have used their platforms within popular culture to score the inevitable book deal. Wherever possible, Writing While Blog, like this column that begat it, keeps it local to the Washington DC area.
