With WrestleMania XXVI now in the past, the company looks towards the future of building new stars, creating new rivalries and building inevitably to WrestleMania XXVII. One of those stars already feeling his star shine a little brighter is Tyson Kidd.
Kidd, born Theodore James Wilson, was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and grew up on Stampede Wrestling, the promotion owned, run and populated by Stu Hart and his family. Wanting to become a pro wrestler, he trained at the famed Hart family Dungeon, in the basement of the Hart family mansion when he was just a teenager. He continued his training under the eye of Tokyo Joe, and wrestled his first match professionally at the age of 15.
He became a friend of the Hart family, particular the younger generation of Teddy Hart, Harry Smith (David Hart Smith) and Natalya Neidhart. These connections allowed him to compete in five different tours with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Primarily competing under his real name of TJ Wilson or under the moniker “The Stampede Kid,” he became an integral part of the re-launched Stampede Wrestling, run by Bruce Hart. He worked a lot with his Hart family friends and slowly made a name for himself. He competed not only in Stampede, but in independent organizations across the US and Canada, including the short-lived Major League Wrestling. Along the way he also formed teams with both Teddy Hart and Harry Smith, playing off their famous family background.
He signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in November 2006 and reported to the defunct Deep South Wrestling, alongside his girlfriend Natalya Neidhart. The duo moved to Florida Championship Wrestling in late 2007 when WWE parted ways with DSW. There they formed a new age Hart Foundation with Harry Smith, Teddy Hart and Ted DiBiase, Jr.. While in FCW he won the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship, by defeating Afa, Jr. and then later in 2008 he teamed with Smith to win the FCW Florida Tag Team Championships.
Wilson made his WWE main roster debut on the February 10, 2009, edition of ECW. He was now billed as Tyson Kidd and was managed by Natalya. Kidd, alongside with Natalya, had a fair bit success on ECW through the first part of 2009. DH Smith eventually joined them on the May 12 edition of ECW and The Hart Dynasty was officially formed. In June of that year the trio was traded to the SmackDown brand, where they have remained ever since. While on SmackDown the trio has found minimal success, primarily feuding with Cryme Tyme, Matt Hardy & The Great Khali and a loss to then-Unified WWE World Tag Team Champions DeGeneration X. Kidd did make his pay per view debut in October 2009 as he teamed with Smith, Chris Jericho, Kane, Hardy, Finlay and R-Truth as Team SmackDown to beat Team RAW in a seven-on-seven tag match at Bragging Rights.
When it was announced that Bret Hart would return to WWE in early 2010 it seemed inevitable that Kidd and The Hart Dynasty would interact with their famous uncle and mentor. However the paring didn’t come to fruition until this past Sunday at WrestleMania XXVI when Kidd and the entire Hart family helped Bret defeat Vince McMahon in a No Holds Barred match. The next night on RAW, Kidd and The Hart Dynasty appeared next to Bret as he said goodbye to the WWE Universe and protected him from Unified WWE World Tag Team Champions The Miz and The Big Show. This led to an impromptu match between The Hart Dynasty and the Champions, which The Harts won by count out.
The appearance on RAW and subsequent victory not only signified an official “face” turn for The Hart Dynasty, but also raised their stock incredibly in the company. They now have the endorsement of one of the biggest WWE legends in history in The Hit Man. They have drawn the ire of the company owner Mr. McMahon and can now stake their claim at challenging for the Unified Tag Titles in the near future.
While Kidd has only been on WWE TV for a little more than a year he has many years of experience to draw on for future success. Already in his short WWE career he has shown his capability to have fun singles bouts with wrestlers such as John Morrison, Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne and great tag team continuity with Smith. He is in the perfect place on television right now, with his closest friends under marketable gimmick, and can only go up from here.
