The music scene in Boston is pretty fantastic as it is. There are a multitude of different venues from tiny dive bars to the colossal TD Garden and they all host a wide variety of musical genres. While there is always a show going on somewhere, there are also so many great artists out there that have yet to be heard here on the East coast. As a huge proponent of unsigned and/or up and coming talent, it must be stated that there is (at the very least) one worth mentioning.
Her name is Raquel Rodriguez. Ms. Rodriguez is a young up and comer based out of Los Angeles, California. She and her six-piece band, The Big Guys, serve up a delicious twist on traditional soul music. It’s a recipe that can only be described as soul, with a handful of funk and a pinch of jazz. With this combination, a sort of new age blend of genres is born. And Raquel and the Big Guys are steering the ship at its helm.
The band’s first full length album, “Miss Me” was released this past summer. A favorite track, “Miss Me” kick starts the entire album with a rocking drum beat, soothed only by Rodriquez’s sultry vocals. As it continues, it becomes more and more of a dance tune. A slower ballad, “Tell Me It’s Fine” rivals the dance tune, but isn’t one bit less intoxicating.
Sound intriguing? You’re not the only one that thinks so. Raquel’s Facebook page proves she has a growing fan base. Currently, the page has over 2,500 “likes” and this is just the beginning. Head over and check it out yourself. Have a listen to her music and “like” her page. Maybe as her Boston fan base grows, she will have no choice but to come and sing for us.
