As a child, LA jewelry designer Lizz Roberts grew up around housing construction and materials (her family is in the wholesale lumber business), which drew her design eye towards natural shapes in an architectural setting. The new CASE line (which includes sculptural rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets)was just launched this month with about 5 new additions to the line and a number of styles crafted in 10k and sterling silver. Each piece is made by hand and many are also crafted in repurposed bronze and copper scrap material found in a local metals factory in the Los Angeles area. Highlights from the collection are below including knuckle rings which have been a HUGE hit amongst editors.
As you can see rectangle shapes are the building blocks of these pieces. Produced by a spare rectangle and constructed in raw bronze, copper,10k gold, and sterling silver - the surfaces may contain nicks and scratches throughout which are seen as brush strokes and the artist’s own signature .Sustainable, local production is ingrained in the designer’s philosophy. Roberts uses lemon juice and salt to clean up oxidation vs. traditional techniques that would normally involve harmful chemicals. With continued wear, the surface of each piece collects a patina of fingerprints and scuffs from each person or surface that it has touched.
