Introducing...David Hart Smith

Currently World Wrestling Entertainment is just crawling with second and third generation stars; the sons and daughters of the wrestlers who came decades before. Some have already found great success, some have fallen by the wayside and some are just getting started.

David Hart Smith is one of those “new kids” who is just starting his journey. Born Harry Smith, this 22 year-old Canadian prodigy is the son of “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith, nephew of Bret and the late Owen Hart and grandson of legendary promoter Stu Hart. His in-ring moniker is an obvious nod to his father and his mother Diana’s maiden name.

Smith began wrestling when he was 8 years old with his cousins and fellow family members. He started wrestling professionally at the tender age of 15 and got the chance to team with father twice in 2002 just days before he passed away. In 2004 he began teaming with his childhood friend TJ Wilson as “The Stampede Bulldogs,” an obvious ode to his father’s famous British Bulldogs tag team with The Dynamite Kid. That same year when he turned 18 he was offered a WWE developmental deal but respectfully turned it down in order to attend college and get more wrestling training in Japan and across the world.

In early 2006 Smith signed a WWE developmental deal after attending the Hall of Fame induction ceremony for his uncle Bret. He worked through WWE’s various developmental territories at the time including Ohio Valley Wrestling and Deep South Wrestling before settling into Florida Championship Wrestling.

He was called up to the main WWE roster in October 2007 and wrestled all of two matches on Monday Night RAW before being suspended for violating the company’s Wellness policy. When he returned he spent the first half of 2008 primarily working on the Internet-exclusive show Heat and basically was persona non grata.

During the 2008 Draft he was sent over to the SmackDown brand, but never made one appearance. He instead went back down to Florida Championship Wrestling to mature and hone his skills.

A week and a half ago he made his re-debut/return to WWE television when he showed up on last week’s ECW taping to assist his cousin Natalya Neidhart (daughter of Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart) and long-time friend TJ Wilson (now wrestling on WWE TV as “Tyson Kidd”) in an attack on a fallen opponent. The group was instantly dubbed The Hart Trilogy, as a nod to their famous wrestling family ties. The trio is clad in pink and black ring attire as homage to The Hart Foundation of old and even enters the ring to a modern-day remix of their old theme music.

With DH leading the way this new generation of Hart legacy is poised to take World Wrestling Entertainment by storm. Young DH is arguably already bigger, stronger and faster than his father was at the same point in his career, and as long he keeps himself out of trouble, big things are in store for this “Canadian Bulldog.”
