The music industry has definitely wowed us again and again with countless acts and various different styles and trends. From swing to bling to house to blues to rap and hip hop, we have all been caught in the rapture (hey Anita!) of some sort of iconic music craze. But what grounds us all? At the end of the day what do we kick back and listen to? What element is crucial to that successful formula of those house hold music names? What gives music staying power (like Barry)? The answer that first comes to mind here at the African American Community Channel is a good ole’ down home group. Let’s look at it this way for a moment: When a group emerges from their hometown by exemplifying raw talent, and excellent music with lyrics that tell the story of the painstaking realities in their city; when music does that and is also able to help with building and maintaining their small community and helps to solve inner city problems, those group members are not only thought of as neighborhood superstars, they are elements of change in their communities. The African American Community Channel would like to introduce you to the powerful delivery and reminiscent lyrics of D.C. based hip-hop group Likeblood.
This trio: Mbea Da 1, Yung E, and Dre Strong have come a long way from their humble beginnings, a real gritty track that made us at the AAMC bounce our heads up and down a few times without hesitation; “Like Us” which let the streets know first hand that whomever slept on them the first time around, was sure to regret it:. “I know a lot of you haters been lookin’ down on us, but most of ya’ll wouldn’t have the guts to stick around like us”, Yung E confidently spits out on the very first verse; a fitting entry into the industry, since a year later they’re the opening act for Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt II” tour, a man who has been deemed a TRUE hip-hop artist and veteran countless times. Raekwon’s NY fan base, which is ALWAYS a tough crowd to please as is any NY crowd were very receptive to their delivery, Likeblood perfomed “Ipod” “Roller Coaster” and “Money over Here”, a really smooth track featuring Bobby Valentino, which is their first album single. The album, #DABINESS, which is also a trending topic on twitter is set to be released this February, follow them!

Throughout their endeavors the group has continued to show its diversity, yet fails to cease to remind us just where they’ve come from: a great example of that is Likeblood’s acting debut in independent film “Jazz in the Diamond District” featuring Clifton Powell and Wood Harris. This film was based in the groups home town D.C., where go-go, or “black rock music” as we’ve called it in the past on our channel has emerged from, this film was heavily influenced on that sweet soulful sound, Likeblood was even featured on the film’s soundtrack. Their musical background is deeply rooted in the influences of their environment which makes them so likeable in other cities, there are so many untold stories about their side of town that this group has yet to spit into our ears, and If these young men stay true to their grassroots values of “family” “flava” and “funk”, like the single says, “baby you can tell, it’s money over here!” To hear their single “Money over here” see tour dates, or find more about his amazing trio, visit their website at www.likeblood.com
