Into The Pit: Ross 'The Boss'

As the co-founder and original guitarist of Manowar, Ross "The Boss" Friedman helped put power metal on the map from 1980-88.

While glam metal was ruling the metal scene back then, Manowar stood for the exact opposite, playing louder and brasher than anyone. Anthems such as "Metal Daze," "Hail To England," "Kings of Metal" and the 1987 MTV hit "Blow Your Speakers" rewarded their efforts with legions of fans and their own place in the Guinness World Records for loudest concert.

Friedman left Manowar in 1988 and today plays in a new supergroup of sorts called Death Dealer. He's spending a few days in San Antonio, culminating in Saturday night's solo appearance at Fitzgerald's Bar (437 McCarty) off 410 and San Pedro, where he is scheduled to go on at approximately midnight.

But first, "The Boss" took time out for an exclusive chat. Click on the video (below, left) to hear our wide-ranging interview, then check him out live at Fitzgerald's.
