Tell us a little bit about yourself! Tell us anything that you’d like your readers to know:
I'm a wife and mother by day, and a dreamer by night. I've been writing since primary school, and wrote my first novel in high school. I write because it makes me happy. If I don't write for a few days, I'm just not myself. My inspiration comes from everywhere--a rainstorm, a country song, a perfect meal, a smile. I'm so blessed to be doing something I love. I thank my readers for allowing me to do that.

What made you do decide to become an author?
It wasn’t really a decision I made. It was almost as if that decision had been made for me. As a child, my nose was always buried in a book. Sometimes when I didn’t quite like a certain story that I read, I rewrote it, or I gave it an ending I was happier with.

Who are your favorite authors, and how have they influenced your writing?
That’s a hard question because I love so many different authors. But if I have to name a few, I’ll say Nora Roberts, Nicolas Sparks, and Lesley Pearse. All these authors have had a combined impact on my writing. In my teens, I used to read a lot of Danielle Steele books. One day I decided to email her. I told her how much I loved her books, and that I wanted to become an author one day. She wrote (at least I thought it was her) me a really long email telling me to never give up my dream. Her email touched me so deeply that a few months later I finished my first novel (which I never showed to anyone).

Tell us about your series!
I’m the author of the Moments In Time contemporary romance series, which follows the lives of two women who are thrown together by the storms of life. When they first meet, Carlene Adams and Melisa Bergfeld are at the lowest points in their lives, after having both experienced tragic losses. They meet at a homeless shelter where they both live and work. And hide from their pasts. Until life pushes them back into the lives they are trying to escape. The series was inspired by Garth Brook’s song, “Learning to live again”. Starting over is not always easy to do, especially since a second chance doesn't guarantee lasting happiness.
Entangled Moments and Rekindled Moments (Carlene’s Adams’s Story)
After her fiancé dies, Carlene gives up on life and love. Then she shares an unexpected kiss with Nick Johnson, a stranger who teaches her how to feel again. Suddenly she wants more than she thinks she deserves. She wants to start over, and she wants Nick. Ready to start again, she moves out of the shelter, gets a job and a place to stay. But she soon finds that the more pieces of her life she picks up, the more they fall back down at her feet. Everything falls apart when she discovers that she and Nick were connected before they even met. And she carries a secret that has the power to destroy any hopes of a future together.
Entangled Moments can be downloaded for free on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other online retailers.
Bittersweet Moments (Melisa’s Story)
The death of her husband in a fire, leaves Melisa broken and feeling betrayed by life. So, she’s determined to hide from the person and the life she once knew. Then a fire breaks out in the homeless shelter, and she comes face to face with the past. Florian “Heat” Dane, a firefighter, walks into her life. He’s determined not only to rescue her from the fire, but wants to teach her to live again. Melisa finds her feelings for him reawakening but there’s a problem, Florian, is not only Melisa’s dead husband’s best friend, but also her high school flame. And the first man to ever break her heart. He’s the man she wants to protect her heart from. On the other hand, he claims to be a changed man, and wants to prove it to her. But Melisa could be the one to break his heart this time.
Melisa’s story will continue in Defining Moments, which will be released in August, 2014.

Everyone has their idiosyncrasies, what’s yours?
Wait, I need to go and ask my husband. I’m back. Mine is that I cringe every time someone places an object on the edge of the table. If I can, I always move it. If I can’t (for example in public), I suffer inside.

What’s your favorite book turned movie and why?
The Notebook by Nicholas Spark. That story tore my heart to shreds and pieced it together all at the same time. A beautiful story that reminds people that the forever kind of love is possible.

What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance, especially when it’s sprinkled with suspense.

Which do you do more, read or write, and why?
I write more than I read. I wish I had more time to read, but my readers come first. Usually, after finishing a manuscript, I spoil myself to a few books from my to-read-list.

What is your writing process like, and what’s your favorite part of it?
My writing process varies. I don’t like sticking to processes or routines. I feel as though they stifle my creativity. Even when writing a book, I don’t always start with “Chapter One”. I write the scenes which light a fire inside me at a given time, and when the whole story is told, I piece them together like a quilt, that I hope will warm my readers on many cold nights.
But I must say that when I’m stuck, I do create a small outline.

Has your work been featured anywhere?
Not yet. Maybe in the near future.

What are you working on now?
Five minutes ago I finished writing, Defining Moments, the next novel in the Moments In Time series. It’s a romantic suspense novel, and the most emotional book I’ve ever written. I’ve never shed so many tears while writing a book. I can’t wait to share it with my readers. Actually, the book wouldn’t have been written if it weren’t for them begging me to continue Heat and Melisa’s story.

What's next for you?
As soon as I finish celebrating, I’ll start working on the first book in a new series. Deare Sisters will be a spin-off of Moments In Time, and it will follow the love stories of five sisters, who were introduced in Bittersweet Moments. I really look forward to working on something new.

Where do you see yourself in five years--in a literary sense?
Five years from now, I hope to earn enough from my books so I can afford to work as a full-time author. And from now till then, I plan to publish at least three books a year. So far I’ve written and published six books (three under a different pen name).

What’s the best advice you have for an aspiring author?
Write books or stories that you would enjoy reading. Only then can you really pour your heart out. Readers will notice if your heart is not in it.

About Dori Lavelle:
Dori Lavelle, is a mother, wife, and a sucker for happy ever afters and mint chocolate. Give her a great romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate and she'd be one happy woman.
Growing up, Dori read a lot, and when she wasn't happy with a particular ending, she wrote a different one, just for herself. Before long, she was writing stories when she should have been doing homework. The time has come for her to share the stories she cooks up in her head.
