Even though she's only been a part of the show for one season, Cristin Milioti – who plays "The Mother" on the smash CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" – says she's having a hard time dealing with the show coming to an end.

"I am mourning, but I feel guilty about it because I feel I don't have the right to," Milioti told me with a laugh in an interview last week. "I was so sad when the show wrapped. I sobbed on the set."

Monday night marks the finale of "How I Met Your Mother," which wraps after nine seasons on the air. The finale episode marks the fateful meeting of The Mother and Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) – and fans will finally find out if there is any truth to the conspiracy theory that the titular character has been dead the entire length of the series, which has been narrated by an older version of Ted.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Milioti spurned the theory, calling it "insane."

"There are some crazy conspiracy theories, which really makes me love the fans more ... That is so crazy," she told THR.

In my interview with the actress, Milioti said she's thrilled invested fans are in the show, especially given the rampant rumors that surmise such a morbid fate for her character. In fact, Milioti said she was taken aback by the emotion of the fans at the recent TV fan festival PaleyFest in Los Angeles.

"We did the panel in the same theater as the Oscars, filled the auditorium with 2,500 people and took questions from fans," Milioti told me. "To see how much this show has affected people's live and to see how invested they are, is incredible. It's what you hope and dream for as a performer. It's the ultimate dream to have people that invested in your character."

To say it's been a dream year for Milioti, 28, is an understatement. In addition to sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," in December, she appeared in one of the most buzzed-about films of the year with director Martin Scorsese's Best Picture Oscar-nominated "The Wolf of Wall Street."

In "The Wolf of Wall Street," which made its debut on Blu-ray and DVD last week, Milioti plays the pivotal role of Teresa Petrillo, the first wife of infamous Wall Street stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio).

In reality, Belfort's first wife was Denise Lombardo – who didn't want her real name used for the film.

Since Lombardo didn't want her name used in the film, it shouldn't come as a shock that she wasn't accessible to Milioti for research. Because of the woman's plight, Milioti certainly doesn't blame Lombardo for distancing herself from the film.

"No one would want to re-live what she went through," Milioti said. "Plus -- and the movie didn't show this -- she was dragged through the tabloids when everything with Jordan was happening. She was only 25 years old, and people were saying -- and Jordan mentions it in the book -- that he traded her in for a better model, essentially. That's terrible. I never would want to have someone revisit that period in their life when they obviously don't want to."
