Interview with U.S. Senate candidate Kathleen Thomas
Q: "In what cases should abortion be legal?"
A: "Incest or rape, and if the mother's life is in danger." Thomas also clarified that any public help in these cases should come from the state or local government or charities.
Q: "Is it feasible and humane to build a border fence, have the police detain illegal immigrants when they encounter them and take them to deportation facilities?"
A: "I don't think they should be allowed over. I don't know the most effective way to secure the borders, but they need to be secured."
Q: "You may end up voting on Supreme Court nominees. Explain judicial activism, what it means to be a 'strict constructionist' and whether or not you believe the Constitution is a 'living document.'"
A: "I believe that the Constitution should be adhered to. And I believe that the legislators have overstepped their boundaries. I am a firm believer in the Constitution. Judges are there to interpret, not to make policy."
Q: "Does Article 2, Section 2 of the Constitution make the un-examined appointment of czars illegal?"
A: "I know that other presidents have used czars. But yes, any appointment that the Constitution says that the Senate needs to ratify would naturally be illegal for them not to ratify."
Q: "How do you prevent groups like ACORN from getting federal funds?"
A: "You vote for them not to have any federal funding...ACORN should have never been funded in the first place. That's one of those things that would be out of the bounds of the Constitution."
Q: "Have you signed the Manhattan Declaration?"
A: "Yes, I will sign it."
Q: "Is global warming happening, man-made and/or a threat to take seriously?"
A: "No, it isn't. There is no global warming. There might be climate change, but it's not anthropogenic...It's so minor that it's not a crisis...and what there is is naturally occurring."
Q: "Should we have allowed General Motors to go under?"
A: "Yes. I am not for any bailouts...I'm a real free market person. You let businesses fail and others will rise in their place."
Q: "Has the stimulus package slowed the recession?"
A: "I don't believe the stimulus package has done anything at all...The way to stimulate the economy is to make a business-friendly environment and create jobs that are long term, will last more than a month."
