A riveting, fast-paced new psychological thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the “Scream” franchise), "The Following" stars Kevin Bacon as a former FBI agent who is called out of retirement to track down an extremely charismatic serial killer (James Purefoy, “Rome”), the mastermind behind an ever-growing web of murderers.
Mexican model, actor and singer Adan Canto is making his U.S. TV debut in the series, which premieres tonight on Fox. We spoke with Canto on the red carpet at the New York premiere of the show on Friday night, which was held at the elegant New York Public Library.
Q: How did you get involved with the project?
Adan Canto: It was auditioning, I had moved to LA, January of last year, and I had a meeting with Fox, and we clicked. Fortunately, it went well and I got a holding deal with them, and then I started reading for their pilots, this is the first one I’ve read before, and it was amazing, I loved it from the day I read it. And everybody who was involved with it, what it entails, the fact it’s a love story, not just a thriller, but a love story, is amazing.
Q: How did you get your start in acting?
Adan Canto: Well, I kind of stumbled into acting, even though I’ve always been fascinated by people and kind of their motives, and it’s been amazing to me, everything I read before about psychology, philosophy, just to put it into practice somehow. I remember doing this one silly commercial that I’m not going to say what it is and then after that, I jumped into theater, I did a few indie films down there, and everything kind of happened really fast.
Q: Tell us about your character on the show?
Adan Canto: He’s a very interesting, he’s a very loving, passionate, kind kid. But he goes a little bit to the extremes when you take away his ground, when you take away what gives him love, his place, rid him of a place on the world and he’ll go a little bit berzerk, it gets interesting what he does.
Q: What’s it like working with Kevin Bacon?
Adan Canto: It’s a learning experience, it definitely is, and not just as an actor, the way he works, but the way he carries himself as a person, it's definitely been a learning experience to me.
Q: What do you love about working in New York?
Adan Canto: This is my first time being in New York, I had never been here before. I love the people first and foremost, fascinating people. Love the food. Great places. I’ve been running all over the place. I’m a runner. Not a race runner, but I just love to run, and I don’t think I’ve ever tasted such amazing food like I’ve tasted in the whole entire New York.
