Carli and Carrie have started a movement with a weekly email sent to their followers titled “Styled With Strength.” I could tell you about it, but I thought you would rather hear it from them, so I asked them a few questions, here are their answers!
How did SWS come about for you two?
We have always been advice givers. Friends, family members, friends of friends have come to us in different situations asking for our input. We love being that for people, we love being the voice of reason or motivation that they need to get them through whatever they’re going through.
Carrie and I had met once a few years ago, so you can imagine my surprise when she randomly fb messaged me to compliment the way I live my life. We kept in touch over the next few weeks and realized we have a lot of the same morals and values. Both being faith filled, self-proclaimed “writers” looking to do something that mattered, something that helped someone – we just clicked.
We have both been praying for something like this. Prayers that sounded more like pleas. Working close to 50 hours a week, life can wear you down, and we needed something that was our own, something that made a difference.
I was on my lunch break in the parking lot of Barns and Nobel when Carrie texted me asking if I’d be interested in writing together – “maybe like a weekly newsletter” she said. We brainstormed back and forth and when I got back from lunch I put up a fb status about it – then boom, explosion.
Out of the blue I hear from this girl I met once at a mutual friends cabin a few years back, she was essentially presenting my dream on a platter. I couldn’t believe it, if that’s not what an answered prayer looks like then I don’t know what does. Never underestimate why he puts certain people in your path, ever.
What do you hope people get out of your messages?
We want women to live the healthiest lifestyle they can. This means focusing on all aspects of their life from finding faith to eating healthy to moving a little more each day. Styled With Strength isn’t about improving so you’re better than other people, it’s about improving so you’re better for other people. When you take the time to concentrate on happiness – mental, physical, and emotional…it’s a win-win for everyone around you. We share everything from recipes to our own trials and more importantly, triumphs. We want our followers to be energized and motivated and excited to take on the day. So many people just go through the motions and miss out on the life meant for them.
I find that when you’re in the business of helping to inspire and motivate others, you often are inspired and motivated by them! What have you learned or experienced so far from your followers?
This couldn’t be more true! When we are having a “blah” day and working out is the last thing we want to do, we are reminded that our followers look up to us and that we are the face of Styled With Strength. We want to be that positive role model for women of all ages. We are two normal 20-something women who go thru the same things they do – heartbreak, setbacks, comebacks, trials and tribulations. If we can get through it, they can too. Writers block is another bug that we are often bit by but reading their words of how we motivated them in return motivates us to be better thinkers, writers, and doers for Styled With Strength. We couldn’t be happier to help other women become better as well as live out our dream!
Where do you hope to see SWS go in the future?
We are growing by close to 150 new members each week. We are excited to reach more women. Right now all our members have been pointed to SWS strictly by word of mouth and we can’t thank our followers enough for spreading the word and contributing to our growth. We are currently working on getting our website up and running as well as taking on the social media world. We are beyond thankful that these women are giving us the chance to live out our dream. It is very humbling and energizing at the same time, and we give thanks to God for placing it on our hearts to start this movement.
One of our ultimate goals right now is to eventually write a book and we're just really excited that this is a great opportunity for us to get our writing out there and to help inspire people even if we don’t have a publication
