Cendrine Marrouat: If you had to choose one project from your entire body of work, which one would it be and why?

Lamont Carey: I have a very strong connection to all of my work. It is hard to choose from.

CM: What is the daily routine of Lamont Carey?

LC: Everyday I get up and look for opportunities to perform, brand, promote, and create opportunities. As a business owner, I can’t feed myself if I am not securing opportunities.

CM: How have Canadian audiences reacted to your work overall? Have you noticed differences with the United States?

LC: Canadians have really embraced my work as a spoken word artist! CKUA was the first radio station to put my work into rotation. I have secured relationships with a Canadian school program to use some of my work as part of the curriculum! So many of my fans are in Canada, I almost feel Canadian.

CM: What do you wish to achieve with your work?

LC: My goal is to continue to connect with amazing individuals who inspire me with their experiences, hopes, and dreams. As long as my work continues to be an expression of real people, I will remain an artist.

CM: What is next for you?

LC: There is so much! My focus right now is to continue to brand LaCarey Entertainment and Lamont Carey. If I am successful with that, then people will always be aware of my projects. This was simpler to say than naming all of the projects I am currently working on. The readers should visit my site to see a breakdown of all of the projects.

CM: Any advice for other independent artists out there?

LC: Yes. There are over 6 billion people in the world. A minimum of a million of them will love whatever you create. Your challenge is how to get your work in front of that million. Networking is the key. You have to push pass you being an introvert! Also, there are going to be people who don’t like your work. Don’t allow them to rip away your motivation. A lot of those same individuals are admirers but angry with themselves because they don’t possess the belief in themselves to do what you do or whatever it is that they really want to do. Let their dissatisfaction with you compel them to create and reach their dreams! DON’T ALLOW THEM TO STOP YOU. The benefit that they hold is that they will tell someone else you exist. Curious people will see if you are as bad as the person said. Lastly, create an Internet presence. It is the easiest way to get your work in front of that million (of people) who are looking for your work.

CM: Where can people find more information on you and your work?

LC: They can go to my company, LaCarey Entertainment Website. They can also visit my personal Website.

CM: Any last words?

LC: You can be anything you dream of being. You just have to start! Today try doing it!

End of the interview.
