Interview with 'Space: 1999: Aftershock and Awe' author Drew Gaska part two

Continued from part one

Classic sci fi TV show ‘Space:1999 ‘ fans are raving about Andrew Gaska’s book ‘Space:1999: Aftershock and Awe’. Inspired by ‘Star Trek”, Twilight Zone,’ and ‘Star Wars,” Gaska has created two popular graphic novels and has more on the way.

Q. Do you have a favorite comic book series?

A. In the past, before it blew up as the phenomenon it is today, I used to answer this question with the comic series ‘Watchmen’. In this day and age, however, that answer seems trite and overused. So, I will instead focus on my other comic loves! Denny O'Neil's 80’s run on ‘The Question ’ranks as one of the best “dystopian quests for self” one will ever find in comic form. I’m also a big fan of Archie Goodwin’s work, specifically his work on ‘Manhunter’ with Walter Simonson and his ‘Marvel Comics Star Wars’ work with the great Carmine Infantino.

Q. Can you tell your fans about any other projects that are you currently working on?

A. My second ‘Space: 1999’ comic series, ‘Space: 1999 Classics’, is coming to a close on comixology, and the omnibus collection of it (over 300 pages) is up for pre-order now on Amazon now for a Summer release. I have also authored a ‘Planet of the Apes’ illustrated novel titled ‘Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes’, and am currently writing a sequel due out May 2014. In addition, I’m continuing work on my creator owned sci-fi opus, Critical Millennium, and writing/producing an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s classic, The Mountains of Madness (titled simply ‘Madness’) in graphic novel form. Whether or not we are able to do future ‘Space: 1999’ books of which I have six additional graphic novels planned, depends on selling out of the first print runs of ‘Space: 1999 Aftershock and Awe’ and ‘Classic Space: 1999: To Everything That Was’. So if you are a fan, please order heavily and give copies as gifts to your friends!

Q. I'm going to end with what's become my signature question. If you were a baseball player, what would your walk up song be? What song pumps you up and inspires you?

A. That one’s easy! It would have to be Beat Box Dog singing The Trololo Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NPdVpx5CgE) “And stepping up to the plate, for no team in particular because he sucks at all sports, is author Andrew E.C. Gaska!”
