Cendrine Marrouat: You have harnessed the power of the Internet and YouTube to shoot into the top. How has the experience been for you, so far?

Lisa Lavie: Youtube is such an amazing outlet for artists and it’s allowed me to reach an audience that I otherwise would how no clue how to do without signing to a major label.  l love having that one on one and communicating with all of my fans. I think I’ve probably responded to over 50,000 comments online and I truly love it!

CM: You are a very successful independent artist. For all the indies out there, what is your secret?

LL:  Determination is key. I’m so determined to reach my goals and I won’t let anyone stop me from getting there. Instead of waiting for things to happen, I chose to make them happen on my own. No one cares more about your music and your career than you do, so you really have to go for it. Another important key is to make sure that you’re working with the right people otherwise it could really hinder your career from moving forward.

CM: In 2006, you were featured in two popular film soundtracks: "The Guardian," featuring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher, and "If I Only Knew,"  with Jeff Bridges. How has this impacted your life and career?

LL: It was such a great opportunity to be a part of those two soundtracks.  It’s always such a fulfilling feeling when you start seeing all of your hard work paying off.

CM: As an independent artist, what are some of the challenges that you encounter?

LL: I feel like I have a whole bunch of pieces to this huge puzzle that I’m trying to put together and for the longest time people were trying to throw pieces of their own puzzle my way but those pieces were just not fitting at all. I finally have a grasp on what this puzzle looks like and everything is now starting to come together. Sure, there are pieces missing but along the way, I’m discovering all of them and it feels so good!

CM: What role do indies play in society?

LL: I honestly feel that indies are starting to take over . All of the major labels are crumbling and have been for the past few years and we’re starting to see a huge influx in indie labels and indie artists surfacing.  I love it!

CM:  What is next for you?

LL:  I have so many things in the works at the moment. I’m currently writing my second album and gearing up for that. I’ve also been touring with Yanni as one of his lead vocalists and I plan my own tour this coming year as well. Everything is so exciting right now.

CM: Where can people find more about you?

LL: My Website is in the works and should be up within the next month! I can’t wait.

End of the interview.
