Cendrine Marrouat: With the Internet, have you noticed a difference in the way your music has been received in Canada, the United States and the rest of the world?
Candice Chantrell: The internet has its good points and bad points. There is a lot of over saturation on the internet which can be frustrating to fight your way through, but the internet as a marketing tool really is an amazing thing. Being able to easily reach out to industry professionals from around the world to promote your music is incredibly beneficial. Also, the ability to correspond with fans from other countries is a true gift... AMAZING!
CM: As an independent artist, what are the main challenges that you encounter?
CC: As an indie artist, finances can be interesting. Finding the funds to promote your music is always a creative task.
Also, being a pop/R&B artist in Canada, it can be a challenge finding venues that support your style of music. A lot of venues in Canada cater to indie rock and acoustic music, so sometimes you really need to just organize your own live events to move forward.
Lastly, proving yourself! All the cliches stand true. You have to believe in your ability and your vision. You have to put yourself out there and ignore fear. It ALL starts with you.
CM: According to you, what role does indie music play in society?
CC: I think it of course promotes individual expression and gives people a voice. It's inventive and creative. It's a strong aspect in the evolution of our culture.
CM: What is next for you?
CC: Well... I don't like to let the cat out of the bag, but we are working on a few ideas. A couple hints for ya: a possible video, radio release, and of course gigging gigging gigging!
CM: Where can people find more about you?
