Interview with singer and songwriter Rachel Fine - part 2

Cendrine Marrouat: What is your daily routine? How do you work with composer/producer Timothy Schletter?

Rachel Fine:  A lot of my time at this point is focused on social networking and building our online presence.  I’m still writing – I write any time I feel inspired – but I’m primarily in the marketing mode right now. Tim and I have recorded some scratch tracks for the next album and we’re on the same page as far as where we see the sound evolving.  I’m starting to get excited to move back into the creative mode.

CM: What do you like the most about performing live? Do you have a favorite memory?

RF: I love the collaborative experience of being on stage with my band. I think my favorite memory was the first time I looked out in the crowd and saw people singing along to my lyrics.  It’s wild to have shared something so personal on an album, but to see it resonate with other people – to the point where they know the words by heart – that touched me in a way I can’t explain.

CM: As an independent artist, what are some of the challenges that you encounter?

RF: Time and resources.  Making a career out of music is a full-time job.  I work harder now than I ever did in corporate America.  It’s a 20-hour a day, 7 day-a-week business and it’s YOU driving YOU – you have to stay focused 100 percent of the time.  There’s no phoning it in or playing hooky on yourself.

CM: What advice would you give someone who wants to follow your path?

RF:  Don’t wait for anyone else to hand it to you.  We live in an amazing time. You can literally write, record and promote yourself until you’ve built enough of a following that radio stations, record labels, etc have to pay attention.  Go create something.  Right now.

CM:  What is next for you?

RF: I just keep putting one foot in front of the other towards what feels good.  So far, it’s been the ride of a lifetime.

CM: Where can people find more information about you and your album?

RF: My Website. From there, you can find links to my pages on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Youtube, etc.  I do so much social networking that it’d be tough NOT to find me.

CM: Any last words?

RF: I just want to genuinely thank you all for taking the time to listen to what I have to say.  One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about building a music following has been the opportunity to connect with fans, one person at a time.  Please say hi on facebook or twitter and let me know what you thought about the album. I know there are a lot of artists you could invest in and I don’t take any of you for granted.

End of the interview.
