Interview with singer and songwriter Natalie Brown - part 2

To read the first part of the interview, visit this page.

Cendrine Marrouat: For those who want to get involved in the project, how can they help you?

Natalie Brown: They can visit the profile page that I have set up at IndieGoGo, which can be accessed via the following page

When you get to the page, you can watch the video I have made that talks about the project, you can read information and check out the six packages available, purchase one and tell five friends via the great social sharing tools IndieGoGo has right on the profile page. To make this happen, each person is encouraged to share the info with family and friends, so that the goal is met by the October 2nd deadline. If someone is not comfortable paying via online methods, there is an address where you can send a check or money order to make a contribution.

CM: You have lived in Canada and the United States. Have you noticed a difference in the way your music has been received?

NB: Not really. I have always been what I term a “global artist” because I adopted the internet to market myself from the very beginning. My fans are located all over the world, so I never have had to deal with a ‘local market’. I’ve never really used traditional methods to market myself because being Independent means not having access to a mass audience in the same way a major label artist has. Because of this, we promote ourselves in other ways and think ‘outside-the-box’, which in the digital age has meant utilising the internet to get the word out. Because of this, you don’t really hit one ‘market’; so I have never seen any difference with regards to the reception of my music because of geographical location.

CM: According to you, what role do independent artists play in society?

NB: Each plays an important role in society. Whereas major label artists tend to influence popular culture, independent artists express a much wider range of unique emotions, concepts and ideas etc. I think that because we do not have to conform to ‘industry standards, practice and politics,’ we are much freer to deliver personal and political statements with our art if we choose to. You would be hard pressed to find an artist working at the corporate level completely free to deliver a message. Indie artists are free to deliver messages to the rest of the world and this is very important!

CM: What is next for you?

NB: Next up is seeing this Crowd Funding campaign to its end on October 2nd and then based on the result, determining which items will be produced. Regardless of the crowd funding outcome, I will be releasing “The Relationship Odyssey” digitally worldwide via iTunes, Amazon.com and my web site. After that I will be promoting the album and will look to do shows if there is demand for them. I am also working on some TV and Film licensing projects as I have been for the past 7 years and will have a busy Fall working on that.

CM: How can people find more about you?

NB: The best jump-off point to get all the information you could ever possible want, or not want about me is to go to http://www.natalie-brown.com
If you are a chatty social network type, you can connect with me on TwitterYouTubeFacebook or MySpace.

You are very welcome! Coming together is the only way that we can become successful. We cannot do it on our own. Further, you are extremely talented, and the world needs to hear it. ;-)
