Interview with ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Jim Titus: 60 pounds gone ‘the right way’ (Photos)

Jim Titus, recurring guest star of ABC Family “Pretty Little Liars” has lost over 60 pounds, naturally, through watching food choices and his dedication to the gym, as stated in today’s interview. As you can see from the publicity still from season one, Titus tipped the scales around 300 pounds. In the more recent portfolio shots fans can see the drastic transformation, giving a glimpse of the new figure for character Barry Maple, making his comeback to "Pretty Little Liars" on Jan. 29.

On Dec. 28 Detroit Celebrity Examiner posted a piece regarding the 2012 Year in Review Celebrity Weight Loss Transformations. A PR rep for Jim Titus took notice. One person who didn’t make the Us Weekly list but should have is Jim Titus. After visiting the article and the website More to Life than Chocolate, it was apparent to Titus there was a shared understanding. Titus also worked under the name James Williams as an entertainment reporter for Ifilm, which was later purchased by MTV Films. It’s nice to know when actors have an appreciation for entertainment writing.

Jim spent the past five years fighting the scale. After becoming a parent in 2010, he realized that at 308 pounds, he was setting the wrong example for his child. He took that negative and turned it into a positive by becoming the fighter that pushes through and comes out on top. When asked if he lost the weight the old-fashioned way or if he had help, Titus replied with:

It has been 100% blood, sweat and tears in the gym! I've always been a big guy, and I lost a lot of weight when I was 18, by taking diet pills (that have since been taken off the market), and doing 2 hours of cardio, 5 days a week. The weight came off fast but inevitably returned. This time I was determined to do it the right way. Weights, cardio, and healthy food choices. All in moderation.

In Hollywood careers are greatly affected by appearance. In the interview, Titus explains what it’s like working as an actor in Hollywood.

It can be, but at the end of the day, I'm still making a living as an actor, which is still very surreal to me. It's a really small sacrifice to make. When I was 16 I had the privilege of working on a movie called "Beloved". Not on camera, but as a production assistant, you know, a gofer. One of my tasks was to bring Oprah Winfrey her breakfast each morning. That woman was so committed to eating well and staying in shape. She even had this crazy stairmaster that she had shipped to set. It just goes to show that no matter how successful you are, it still takes dedication. I'm sure she didn't actually want to eat that horrid oatmeal!

The “Pretty Little Liar” actor maintains his new look by living day-to-day. Jim says he didn’t gain any weight over the holiday despite slacking off. He says he would like to “drop another 30 and then start transitioning into the maintenance phase. “ After that 30 pound loss, he’ll have lost an astonishing 100 pounds. Titus says, “That’s like losing one of the ‘Pretty Little Liars!’”

Be sure to tune in to “Pretty Little Liars” on ABC Family Jan. 29 to see the return of Jim Titus as Barry Maple in the episode “Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Inferno.”

Update: Jim wants everyone to know that since publication, he met the scale for a 72 pound win!
