Interview with New England Metal & Hardcore Festival brainchild Scott Lee (Photos)

It took a bad experience at another festival in the Midwest to spark an idea sixteen years ago. A guitarist, Matt Bachand of Shadows Fall, planted the seed into Scott Lee’s ear and he took the idea to his boss who then said, run with it. So off he went selling the idea and pitching it to bands and everyone else who would listen. Now, in its fifteenth year, the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival has grown into a pilgrimage for metal fans worldwide.

Scott Lee is a knowledge base, a guy that has done and seen it all in this business and loves what he does. He has a firm grasp on everything from load-ins, stage time, hotel accommodations, to today’s version of writers and especially amateur photographers asking for passes. “I saw one person last year taking pictures with an iPad, I was like, really man?” He also can open up and have a cool conversation both on and off the record and tell some stories along the way.

Check out the video link to listen in on most of our conversation and see some photos of bands this year. Oh, and he would not give up some info at the time, but The Acacia Strain and Everytime I Die have since been added on. Check out the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival website for everything that you need to know and find out be it line-ups, directions, or places to stay.
