I present to you one of my absolute favorite bands of San Francisco: My First Earthquake. I especially wanted to give them props because they donated all of the profits from their downloaded album in the month of January to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. They will continue taking donations until this Friday February 5th. On Wednesday February 3rd My First Earthquake will be playing a FREE gig (if you RSVP) at Cafe de Nord as an official Noise Pop warm-up party and the 5th Anniversary of The Owl Magazine!

I sent over some random and silly questions just to see what Rebecca, Chad, Andre, and Dave would say, they did not disappoint.

Jamie: So what's your problem with hipsters anyway?
My First Earthquake: We haven't got a problem with them. They got a problem with us? What? Do they wanna fight us? We can take them.

J: How do you feel about the genre term I just coined called "dork rock'? Maybe "geek rock" is better?
MFE: I assume that you're referring to "dork rock" as being the type of music that hipsters listen to and not the music of My First Earthquake. Quite fitting.

J: If you could only wear one item of clothing on stage, what would it be?
Andre: Chain mail. No, wait... Mithril chain mail!!
Rebecca: The shiniest sequins.
Chad: My hyena eating a squid shirt.
David: Snakeskin boots.

J: Favorite place to eat in SF? Name a few if you can't pick just one.

MFE: Le Cheval in Oakland. Patxi in Hayes Valley. Tartine in the Mission. Farmer Brown's in the TL.

J: Who are you favorite Bay Area bands at the moment?
MFE: MAUS HAUS! And we are finally playing with them at Noise Pop! Excitement abounds!

J: If you were stranded on a desert island with only one record (and you had the means to listen to it) what would it be?
MFE: Sparks - Kimono My House

J: Favorite place to chill out with a good book or a nap?
MFE: This is starting to sound like the questions of an online dating site. Alright, I'll bite. On a beach in Bermuda, sipping a Mai Tai.

J: What obscure instrument would you like to own/incorporate into your next album?
MFE: Practically: Electronic drums. Fantastically: A full horn section. Magically: A unicorn horn section.

J: Favorite record cover of all time?
MFE: Beatles - Sgt. Pepper

J: In a world where you get anything that you want, who would be designing your next concert poster?
MFE: Being a band of designers, we would really have to fight over this one: Masami Teraoka, Small Stakes, Shepard Fairey, Miro (can we use a time machine in this mystical world)...

J: Since most of you aren't from the area, which do you prefer: blizzards or earthquakes?
Andre: I'm from the area and probably like most human beings, I don't prefer either potentially fatal events.
Rebecca: gentle earthquakes and blizzards from Diary Queen.

J: Rebecca- who does your hair? We love it!
Rebecca: Aww, shuckers! Just got it cut by Onika at On Mars. I've got a new do for Wednesday's show! See you there!

My First Earthquake plays live on Wednesday, February 3rd at 8pm at The Rumble at Cafe du Nord: Playing with Jaguar Love, The Butterfly Bones, BAGeL Ted and more. This show is an official Noise Pop warm-up party and the 5th Anniversary of The Owl Magazine. It's free if you RSVP!

All PROCEEDS FROM ALBUM DOWNLOADS WILL BE DONATED TO HAITI RELIEF. To make a donation, you can buy Downstairs through Bandcamp.
